Many countries around the world have 're-discovered' the maritime sphere and invested significant resources in its development. Most of the OECD countries have come out in recent years and have published a national strategy for maritime mediation. The sea can be Israel's next growth engine -a blue, sustainable economy that brings an economic and technological development along side of the preservation of natural values and local heritage.

The economic sectors associated with the sea, such as the oil & gas sector, the shipping and ports, and others – are sectors that have not changed in a long time. But even in these conservative fields, a digital revolution has been happening offering huge business opportunities and giving vast land for entrepreneurship.

With the growing  importance of the sea for Israel's economy in the last decade, mainly due to the discovery of offshore gas fields, due to the flourishing international trade that 99% of it (in terms of weight) is carried out by ships on the sea, with the increasing desalination of water (over half of the water for urban use in Israel are distilled from the Mediterranean) and the constant growth in the population along the coasts – it is impossible to overstate the importance of the sea to the State of Israel.
