The Hebrew University has wide-scope programs of natural and exact sciences. For the last decades, The Hebrew University has been leading ocean research in Israel and in certain areas the Hebrew University is a world player. Marine sciences are highly interdisciplinary, involving oceanography, biology, chemistry and physics. The Hebrew University is the only university in Israel with marine scientists in all these fields, thus enabling cross- and multi-disciplinary research.
The Hebrew University manages the Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat as a national facility for research and teaching. Research infrastructure includes "wet" and "dry" laboratories, a wide variety of instrumentation, scientific diving services, small self-operated boats and a new research vessel for open sea work.
